A Contemplative 4-week Course
In this course, we will practice mindfulness and compassion meditation and explore the intersection of parenting and mindfulness through discussion, shared learning, meditation periods, and relational mindfulness activities. The science of mindfulness suggests that we can build emotional resilience, inner strength and well-being, all qualities we hope to cultivate as parents. These inner resources help us develop the flexibility to be present, kind, and skillful whether we are alone or interacting with our children and families.
One of our intentions with this course is to support parents of our teens to develop a shared practice and language to support each other in deepening emotional and relational skills. This course is set up for parents who are new to meditation and those with more experience.
Jessica Morey began practicing meditation at age 14 in the Insight Meditation Society teen retreats. She returned every year for 6 years and then participated for 10 years in an IMS young adult mentoring group. Jessica is a founding board member and lead teacher for iBme teen retreats. She wrote an article in the February 2014 Mindful Magazine, “Finding My Way,” about her experience learning and benefiting from mindfulness throughout her young adult years.
Anasuya is a grandmother of six children, biological mother of three and surrogate parent for at least three others. She has been a Buddhist practitioner since 1971, and has had the great fortune to study with many amazing Buddhist teachers and lamas. The teachings of the Buddha have been a refuge and support as a parent, grandmother and partner. Anasuya currently practices Tibetan medicine in Northampton, MA.
